For over 16 years, African Impact has been operating volunteer projects, internships, and study abroad programs in 10 countries across Africa. We develop volunteer projects, internships, and study abroad programs hand in hand with local communities to ensure the work we do meets the needs of the communities and contributes to long term, sustainable change. We work in collaboration with local NGOs, schools, hospitals, clinics, women’s groups, and organizations across the continent and offer support through volunteer assistance and, in some cases, donations and fundraising from our charity organization, the African Impact Foundation.

Wildlife Photography Manager, Greater Kruger

Full-Time Position

African Impact is a leading organization in wildlife conservation, dedicated to making a lasting impact on the African continent. We are seeking a talented and passionate Photography Manager to join our team at the Big 5 Conservation Project. This is a unique opportunity to combine your love for photography with conservation efforts and make a real difference. Job Description: As the Photography Manager, you will play a crucial role in capturing and sharing the beauty and importance of wildlife conservation through photography and videography. Your responsibilities will include project planning, creative project development, team coordination, volunteer guidance, marketing support, talent scouting, database management, and more. Key Responsibilities: Project Planning: Collaborate with coordinators to understand project requirements, objectives, and timelines for both photography and video projects. Ensure proper resource allocation and utilization. Project Creation: Propose and develop new photography and video projects, especially during off-seasons, to maintain creative output consistency. Project Updates: Regularly update and propose new photography and video projects to keep content fresh and engaging. Team Coordination: Assign tasks, monitor progress, and provide guidance to team members. Conduct weekly photography team meetings. Occasionally assist coordinators when needed. Marketing: Provide the marketing team with monthly photography and video materials, including top images of the month, conservation photos, and marketing shots. Volunteer Relationship: Maintain strong relationships with volunteers, address feedback promptly, and provide effective solutions and support to project-related concerns Talent Scouting: Identify and evaluate new photographers or assistants, review their skills and portfolios, and provide relevant information to base and project managers. Interns: Guide and assist interns with their photography projects and portfolios. Conduct workshops, provide project updates, and offer private critiques to help them develop their skills. Database and Copyright: Organize and back up the photography database. Respect and acknowledge creators before using their images for purposes outside of marketing. Release Forms and Legal Binding: Ensure all participants have signed required release forms and keep track of compliance. Future Volunteers: Respond to inquiries from potential future volunteers, providing information about equipment and the program. Assist interns in their transition into the program. Ex-Volunteers: Address questions or issues ex-volunteers may have related to wildlife photography. Provide necessary paperwork, such as recommendations, as needed. Foundation Projects: Collaborate to raise funds for bringing underprivileged woman to the project, creating opportunities for women in the field. Instagram Account: Ensure that all content on the Instagram account aligns with brand guidelines and is produced professionally.

Teaching & Community Support Coordinator, Zanzibar

We are looking for a proactive, team player and passionate Coordinator for our Teaching & Community Support project. This role is deeply embedded in the community, and offers an unparalleled opportunity to immerse yourself into Zanzibari life whilst leading and supporting volunteers who come to work on the project. You will be responsible for the day-to-day management of volunteers, ensuring they have an unforgettable experience whilst staying safe, healthy and entertained both on project and at our volunteer house. You will live in volunteer house and be responsible in making sure our international volunteers are comfortable in their accommodations and enjoying their volunteer experience. You will need to balance your time between managing relationships, planning activities, actively seeking new partnerships to expand the programme, encouraging and supporting volunteers and reviewing the projects and proposing changes based on feedback. Detailed Responsibilities Management Experience Lead and coach the team to deliver the volunteer experience and to run the teaching & community project. Ensure activities provide unique and immersive experiences. Make the decisions on how to implement improvements based on volunteer feedback to drive continuous improvement. Identify and run fun opportunities for Volunteers outside of projects which generate income. Be actively involved in social activities with volunteer always maintaining a professional relationship &; creating a positive volunteer atmosphere- present, enthusiastic &; engaged Run all aspects of the teaching & community project to demonstrate what good looks like. Encourage and guide volunteers to be the best they can be. Take responsibility for managing emergency situations and major volunteer issues using the Code of Conduct and instil this way of thinking within the team. Organising daily/weekly schedule for all volunteers. Effectively communicate goals and reasoning behind cultural guidelines to volunteers. Ensuring volunteers know when/where/what they are doing and adhere to schedule-project goals, punctuality. Manage travel and accommodation logistics including airport pick-up and drop-offs, room arrangements and volunteer meal coordination. Work in partnership with the Project Teams to understand the needs of the community and to ensure activities are right for the communities and for volunteers. Guide and work with volunteers to plan, execute and review activities. Lead and coach the coordinators to deliver the volunteer experience and to run some community project. Project Coordination Supervise volunteers by offering expertise and guidance, ensure they have an understanding of their projects and are prepared for their lessons Maintain a schedule rich in fun and engaging activities. Lead the day-to-day running of the project with your Zanzibari team. Leading volunteer preparation for lessons. Ensure the quality of teaching and lesson preparation is consistent & maintains a high standard at all times. Working to actively create a positive team environment. Constant communication to the team about any issues or project challenges. Alongside the project coordinators, maintain strong partner relationships for long term sustainable projects. Set up simple processes to capture Achievements and coach the team on how to manage this. Coach teams on sustainable projects, how to identify strong project measures and what makes for a good volunteer project. Clearly demonstrate adherence to the Code of Conduct, Standard Operating Procedures and Experience documents on how to support the Volunteer Experience. Enterprise Management Advise the Base Manager on any budget requirements according to the arrival schedule and necessary expenditure. Maintain any company assets to a good quality. Provide reports and imagery to the office to support the growth in numbers of volunteers. Oversee any expenditure you are responsible for ensuring good records are maintained. Identify areas for growth and improvement discussing these with your Base Manager. Contribute to the running of social media pages. Collating weekly, monthly and quarterly teaching project stats. Community Engagement Continuously discuss project ideas/improvements with volunteers Maintain positive relationships with local staff, students, teachers & community members. Support and guide all local project members of staff to reach their goals and potential. Develop an understanding of the cultural within the local community. Spend time in the community building relationships and assist volunteers transitioning into life in Jambiani. Be a champion of our cultural guidelines to upkeep African Impact’s reputation with the community. Respond quickly and directly to community needs – implement projects to support their requirements. Skills and Experience Undergraduate degree (ideally in a teaching/development related field but not mandatory) Able to move full-time to Zanzibar for minimum of one year Previous teaching/TEFL experience highly desirable Have volunteered abroad (within Africa preferred) A team player who’s interested in people, coaching, and supporting volunteers Self-motivated, flexible, independent, adaptable Love of socialising with different types of people and mixed ages A positive attitude and the ability to think on your feet Passionate about African Impact and sustainable development Fluency in English Strong communication skills – both written and verbal Logistics: Full-time accommodation and meals are provided at the volunteer house One return flight will be reimbursed Stipend: dependent on experience

Education Volunteer Coordinator, Livingstone

Livingstone, Zambia

Full-Time Position

You will be responsible for managing and coordinating the volunteers and projects in Livingstone. We arrange your housing and you’ll be responsible in making sure our international volunteers are comfortable in their accommodations and enjoying their volunteer experience. You will need to balance your time between managing relationships with our community partners, planning activities, actively seeking new partnerships to expand the programme, encouraging and supporting volunteers and staff members and reviewing the projects and proposing changes based on feedback.
