Each destination brings its unique attributes – both cultural, linguistic and natural beauty. South Africa is known as the rainbow nation and has 11 official languages and the locations where you will be interning you will be exposed to at least 6 of these!
Cape Town is officially one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Framed between oceans and mountains, it’s surrounded by incredible natural beauty, with Table Mountain, one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, an absolute highlight. Cape Town is also a place of huge diversity, lively cultures, and a vibrant nightlife. Living here is dynamic and interesting, and weekends will give you a huge variety of exciting activities.
The Greater Kruger Area encompasses over 20 private wildlife reserves on the west side of the world-renowned Kruger National Park in South Africa. These private reserves come together to create one big reserve. A significant contribution to wildlife conservation efforts, helping to protect and preserve one of the world’s last remaining wildlife strongholds.
Livingstone, Zambia is a beautiful, rural town that many call “the real Africa.” Just a stone’s throw away from one of the 7 Natural Wonders of the World – Victoria Falls – Livingstone is the ultimate playground for those who love adventure sports, wildlife, and the great outdoors. There are many national parks where you can observe lions, rhinos, hippos, crocodiles, elephants, and giraffes, and often, we spot some of these animals along the road on our way to project!
Zanzibar is a unique island just off the coast of Tanzania in East Africa that is famous for its rugged island culture, fascinating history, and mesmerizing beaches. It is a place where the air is fragrant with the smell of spices and the tropical beaches will take your breath away.
During the community development internship, your primary role will be as a representative of the African Impact Foundation and you will be responsible for managing the charity’s projects at your chosen location. Projects are varied depending on the country, town, or community that you will be working in.
Projects in both Cape Town and the Greater Kruger Area, South Africa allow you to be immersed in the local culture while experiencing the beauty, wildlife, and adventures of the natural surrounds. The rural areas suffer from a lack of government services like education and healthcare and battle with poverty and the effects of the HIV epidemic.
They are in dire need of medical assistance, HIV education, and empowerment for vulnerable populations like youth and pregnant mothers. You will have the opportunity to aid in a number of ways, including fundraising for rural clinics, gardens, preschools, and feeding programs as well as overseeing income-generating initiatives such as craft-making.
One of the busiest African Impact programs is located in Livingstone, Zambia, where, as an intern, you will develop skills in liaising with grassroots projects, writing and grant proposals as well as event planning. The diversity of the projects at this location allows involvement in refurbishment projects, work with children and youth as well as medical outreach and awareness.
Another option for an African internship placement is in Jambiani, a rural village on the east coast of Zanzibar Island. The unemployment rates in these areas of Tanzania are is extremely high with most people living at subsistence level. As an intern, you will spend between six and 12 months living at an African Impact project base and will liaise closely with the African Impact Project Manager and be involved in community partnerships and relations.
In addition, you will also be involved directly with the management of donations and the supervision of the implementation of all funds. This will include all financial aspects as well as monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on all donations. You will be responsible for raising awareness and fundraising for the African Impact Foundation within the local town.

This is a 4-week global health program that takes place in the town of Livingstone, Zambia. The internship is designed to improve access to, and quality of, healthcare.
