Join the African Impact team in the ‘Adventure Centre’ of Southern Africa and bring hope & health to a community where medical resources are limited. Your involvement on this project could change lives and help support local healthcare initiatives in rural communities.

572 pin it!

Healthcare institutions in Zambia suffer from being under-staffed and under-resourced, often preventing them from providing sufficient healthcare to the public. Healthcare volunteers are much needed to provide assistance in educating a variety of age groups regarding HIV, hand hygiene, substance abuse, nutrition and cancer. This well-established healthcare project in Livingstone supports the team at Maramba Old People’s Home by assisting in the monitoring of residents health and providing psycho-social and emotional support. As you volunteer in Zambia with African Impact, an important focus of your project involvement will also be to support community care givers in the field of helping patients with treatment adherence, making healthy lifestyle choices and keeping house bound patients in friendly company.

African Impact works together with various clinics, DATF [District Aids Task Force], Sepo Centre (co-ordination of Home Based Care services), Livingstone Prison and the Ministry of Health and Community Development Mother and Child Health to deliver the maximum benefit of healthcare and education to a broad scope of the community.

The Livingstone Healthcare and Community Development volunteer project has seen a great amount of benefit to the community as a result of their work in expanding the Linda Clinic to a three ward district hospital.   They have also refurbished the Maramba Old People’s Home, introduced cervical cancer talks to educate women, made structural improvements to various clinics and implemented ministry approved HIV education courses.

As a medical volunteer, you do not have to be medically qualified to make a huge impact in the lives of the local community members. You will learn and experience the healthcare system in Zambia and gain deep appreciation for the resources you have available back home as you assist in caring for patients.

Feedback from our volunteers
Deanne Barbery, USA

The Programs get volunteers involved first hand with the people and the projects. Enjoyed the extra sightseeing and experiencing “living” in Zambia. I would recommend this program to my friends and family without hesitation because not only are the missions and goals of the program admirable, but they are rewarding in ways I couldn’t have imagined.

The entire experience was better than I could have imagined and I’d come back and do it again in a heartbeat without hesitation! Thank you all at African Impact for the amazing adventure, I truly wish I could stay longer!!!

Spencer Hayashi, USA

This is my first time volunteering with Africa Impact and I have nothing but positive things to say about my trip. My friendship developed with the staff, fellow volunteers, and local Zambians created an environment where I felt immediately welcomed.

Projects were productive and easy to prepare for, with the backpackers providing a great place to relax while not out on the town. I have full confidence in the welcoming personas of the current Africa Impact staff that will continue to provide the best volunteer experience possible.

IzabelaForys, UK

This has been one of the most incredible experiences of my life. I am glad the daily projects are so varied so you get a chance to do everything and see so much of Livingstone. Volunteering here has changed my perspective on life; it has made me a more positive person and shown me how people here live such a difficult life yet are still so happy and how back home we should appreciate everything that we have.

Sofia Zarod, UK

It has been my first time in Africa and the whole experience has been more than I could have even imagined. We all hear about how people are living in third world countries but you can never really try to understand the reality of it until you get to see even a tiny aspect of life in Africa.

Meeting all the amazing people and being part of the projects has given me so much perspective which I feel I’ll have for life. What I have seen here is not something I will leave behind and just forget about when I get back home, Its probably been the most profound experience I’ve had and it will definitely change what I do in the future, I can’t wait to come back!
