Where will I sleep?

Where will I sleep?

You will be comfortably accommodated in a self-contained cottage overlooking the plains of Laikipia on Shanni’s family property, which borders on the Laikipia Conservation area. You will also spend time in the more remote area of Maralal in Samburu, working with other NCT and CHAT staff at their bases in that area that includes the camel mobile base 1 hour drive east of Maralal.

And Meals?
There will be transport to Nanyuki possibliy once a week (every ten days) to attend to grocery shopping etc. the costs of these groceries and supplies will be provided by the funds that you will already have paid to join the programme. If you are out in the field you will be required to contribute towards your meals with the mobile clinic teams.

How do I get there and travel around?

The most direct route is to fly in to Nairobi, where you will be met by one of our representatives, and then transfer by bus to Nanyuki, where you will be met by Shanni or one of her team members.

What does the cost include?

What does the cost include?

Please note: it is necessary for us to take payment from you for this placement so as to avoid the extra financial strain that the Nomadic Communities Trust and Community Health Africa Trust would otherwise incur. We have provided more than adequately for your food, accommodation and support needs in the required amount, and have included a small project fee, which will be spent directly in developing the programme. Being able to provide the NCT and CHAT with both manpower and limited funding is our privilege, and a vital part in the Trust being able to develop and grow unhindered.

Included:

  • Project Fee: this entails financing that goes directly back into the project that you are involved with. This project fee facilitates funding for items such as clinical supplies, salaries for nursing staff etc.
  • Opportunities to explore local Maasai markets and villages en route with the mobile clinics
  • Transfers from Nanyuki to project base
  • All daily transfers to and from your projects during your stay
