Local Women and Children Empowerment Project Testimonials
Testimonials from Local Women And Children Empowerment Project in Tanzania
Alexandra Lang, Canadian
I had the opportunity to volunteer on this project for the month of January 2011. I am extremely pleased with the experience I had while I was there. For my part, I taught English classes, helped in an after school program for local children, and attended home visits. The program offers you a unique opportunity to connect with the students thereby allowing students to familarize themselves with the local culture in a postiive way. Finally, the project provides a warm, family - like atmosophere in which the volunteers live together, spend their downtime together and take meals as a group. The result is that one always feels comfortable and at home though in most cases they are on the other side of the world from their family and friends. All in all this programme provides a great volunteer experience for all those looking to make a positive impact in a beautiful part of the world

Having not done volunteering before, I wasn't sure what to expect, or how involved I would really be. So to arrive and take part in various activities ranging from teaching, painting the women's cooperative, and printing/laminating the graduation certificates; I found the project to be very hands on, and very rewarding. To witness the joy of the local kids playing, the students' appreciation for teaching and helping them, and the impact you make from the smallest things you do, makes this project one that I would highly recommend to anyone.

I loved this programme and felt so involved and able to contribute from day one. I also felt that any money I had paid as a volunteer was being used for the benefit of the students. This experience helped me at a difficult time in my life, and gave me a real perspective on what’s important and what’s not. We take so much for granted and have so much, and yet we never seem to be satisfied or appreciate what we have, and the Tanzanians have so little – not even access to education – and yet are so appreciative of what they have and so positive about life. It was a real lesson.

Volunteering in Tanzania was a life-changing experience for me. I found it incredibly rewarding. I believe I made a tangible difference in some wonderful Tanzanian’s lives. I highly recommend this program to anyone looking to volunteer in Africa.
