Healthcare & Medical

exit

Offer an extra pair of hands as a healthcare volunteer in Africa where a small act of kindness will go a long way. Your assistance can have a life-changing effect on the vulnerable, ill and over-burdened communities in Kenya.

Kenmed11 pin it!

Public health facilities in Kenya are faced with numerous challenges, including under-staffing, lack of equipment and resources, operating without sufficient doctors and with few structures in place to efficiently give services to patients. African Impact partners with a number of clinics in the community, where medical volunteers can gain insight into Kenyan healthcare alongside medical professionals.

Health Awareness Clubs are also run at various schools and old age homes. African Impact, together with its partners, have been able to convert unused space into a waiting bay for patients at Karuri Health Center as well as renovating the counseling room, staff room, ante/post-natal clinic and maternity ward.

The Kikuyu Hospital will soon have a completed pediatric ward through the projects efforts. The healthcare volunteer project has also had a great impact at a local school for children with intellectual disabilities by building a vegetable garden to help improve the children’s’ diet, donating a dairy cow, building a cowshed, and refurbishing the water supply area.

As a volunteer in Kenya, you will acquire knowledge, share skills, and build relationships.  Your medical background will determine your placement at the various public health centres’ or hospitals, and to assist us in planning for your placement, we ask that volunteers send through details of their healthcare experience, qualifications and/or current university course.

During this work and volunteer experience, you will come to a new understanding of what constitutes a basic need between this culture and your own. You will realise that a smile costs nothing but means the world in encouragement and that you are capable of achieving far more than you ever thought possible.

Feedback from our volunteers
Carly Matte, Canada

I would definitely recommend African Impact to others who are looking to volunteer. The staff are wonderful, the accommodations were excellent and I felt that I made a difference here.

Jill Armour, Australia

I can definitely say that my decision to volunteer with African Impact was the best thing I have ever decided to do. It was both rewarding and I was constantly learning about the people and their lives here. I also met some amazing people, volunteers, coordinators and staff of African Impact who I have loved spending time with and hope to keep in contact with in the future. I think this project has given me the perfect opportunity to see what life is really like in Kenya while still being able to see the sights on the weekends and enjoy the company of other volunteers.

Rebecca Hammersley, UK

The biggest impact this project has made on me has been on my medical perspective. I think the programs that African Impact offer have provided great insight into healthcare in the 3rd world and the experience has been invaluable.

Veronique Venne, Canadian

African Impact is the only one I will recommend to friends and family…and I will book through this organization for my next volunteer trip!
