AMAZING DAY OF DONATIONS AT OUR CAPE TOWN PROJECTS!

May 20, 2010
We are proud of our partnership with UK-based Project Fairplay and their amazing work in support of sports development at our Cape Town projects.
Katherine (Katie) Sparkes and Phil McClean, the founders of Project Fair Play, visited us in Cape Town last week from the 12-16 May 2010. They are heading up the fundraising for Project Fairplay for our Sports Field at Ukhanyo Primary School.
Phil and Katie spent Thursday and Friday morning teaching some basic football skills to the children at Ukhanyo Primary where we had over 300 children turn up for the training.
We then had the prize giving of 19 Footballs and 80 UK Football Jerseys that were donated through “project fairplay”.
The children were asked to write or draw on a piece of paper the reason why they would love a soccer field at Ukhanyo Primary School. We must have had close to 500 entries which made the decision making very difficult!
Katie and Phil chose 1 overall winner who won a Beckham Jersey, a Football and a new pair of football boots! We couldn’t have chosen a more grateful winner who had the children cheering him on as he held up his boots.
The atmosphere was just electric with almost the entire school there (+/- 1300 students) and teachers. 19 children were selected from different grades as the best entries who then won themselves a jersey of their choice and a football. 60 Runner up prizes were then handed out where the children got to select a football jersey.
Phil and Katie have had over 20,000 football jerseys donated to date which will be shipped to various places throughout Johannesburg and Cape Town. They have also just paid their first installment of GBP4000 to our partner charity The Happy Africa Foundation, to go towards the sports field at Ukhanyo Primary. It really couldn’t have gone much better than it did and we would like to send our very sincere thanks to Katie and Phil and everyone in the UK who has given so generously!
P.S. Leo the Lion (pictured) is Project Fair Play’s mascot which they have donated to Ukhanyo Primary School as their new Mascot!
Best wishes and with sincere thanks from all of us at African Impact!
