AFRICAN IMPACT IN THE MEDIA

Our Mozambique project featured in the UK's Coral Coast Gazette recently.

"Where to go and what to do during one’s ‘gap’ year is often influenced by hobbies or peers. Do you want to have a big adventure, learn something new, discover yourself or simply help others? Prince Harry’s much publicised visits to Lesotho, a small, mountainous country in Africa, has focused considerable attention on the continent, elevating it to a gap year venue of choice!
Where to go and how long to stay depends on the project selected. For example, you may choose to work with the lions at Victoria Falls or assist with community and medical projects in Kenya. From Cape Town to Zanzibar there’s a project perfectly suited to you and, no matter which one you choose, time spent in Africa provides you with an opportunity to embrace it all – adventure, self discovery, new vistas and altruistic endeavours!

African Impact - Mozambique
In Mozambique, African Impact, a company which specialises in volunteer tours across the continent, are running a community based project in the scenically beautiful town of Vilanculos, 700 ks north of Maputo. Here, under the guidance of Business & Project Manager Poppy, you can really make a difference. With visits lasting on average between 2 weeks and 2 months, volunteers are put to work teaching in the local schools, where both English and AIDS awareness are on the agenda. Building projects and social awareness also form a part of the experience, which brings together like minded adventurers from many countries. Working hands-on within the community is a really uplifting experience as African Impact encourage you to become ambassadors for responsible conservation and community centred tourism in Africa.

You are housed in charming thatched bungalows right on the beach, your meals are provided and your project time is very well spent. When you are off duty, Vilanculos offers an amazing array of water and other sports, a vibrant night life and plenty of opportunity to make new and lasting friends.  Snorkelling, diving, fishing, parasailing, horse riding and canoeing are all on offer here – seafood is plentiful and the skies are generally blue!"

Latest feedback on this project, from recent volunteer Elena Stevens, UK:
"I had the most amazing time here, easily the best month of my life so far. I have gained a better understanding of project work and what exactly they do to help the community. I have made some lifelong friends here and incredible experiences. I will never forget this project."
