Lion And Wildlife Conservation NGO Internship

Seen the amazing UK Documentary 'Lion Country'? Click here to read more about the series, which is filmed at our projects, and for an update from the star of the show, David Youldon.

Whatever your experience or skills, if you feel you can assist ALERT in advancing our goals, then we can provide you the opportunity to experience working in Africa.

Internships are currently being accepted for the following:

1. Project Management
2. Animal Management
3. Marketing
4. Fundraising
5. Research
6. Hospitality Management

Project Management

Project Management is looking at the project as whole;
our managers are responsible for complete overview of the project they are based at. In other words they are responsible for the lights turning on, making sure the water runs and many other areas including staffing, restocking and bookkeeping.
Project Managers ensure that the resources they are provided are utilised to their full potential. A large part of this role is co-coordinating volunteers in the various project locations and ensuring the daily tasks required by the operation are completed. They are not only responsible for all the internal, but also external factors that affect the project and often have to lead discussions with external bodies, such as the appropriate wildlife organisations and the local communities.

Animal Management

Animal management is predominantly focused on the lions. However, depending on the location chosen you
could also work with other animals such as horses and donkeys. Our designated animal managers are responsible
for monitoring the welfare of all the animals under their care, this includes health, living conditions and feeding.

Marketing

Through working with our marketing manager, you will not only have the chance to devise, design and create new marketing campaigns, but you will also get an in-depth view of how the marketing process works, how and why decisions are made, and most importantly, how to make the most of a budget no matter the circumstances.

Fundraising
Corporate and Donation

The lifeblood of any charity is the money donated by others, whether it be through individual and corporate giving, or grant funding. This area focuses on all levels of fundraising and you will gain an appreciation of how to devise fundraising strategy, contact potential sponsors and prepare grant proposals.

Research

A critical part of the work we do is the research we undertake at all our project sites. You will work closely with our technicians on collection and analysis of data. On top of this, participants will be actively involved in the creation of
new studies, monitoring existing ones, and creating reports that reflect the progress of each project. This position
will give you the opportunity to work on studies on a number of flora and fauna including, lions, elephant, large predators and alien plant species. The studies you will be involved will depend on the location you choose.

Hospitality Management

Hospitality is a crucial part of any tourist operation and as an intern you will work closely with the team to ensure that our guests are satisfied with their visit. Your duties will vary according to your project location and experience. Antelope Park, for example, runs as a game park and safari lodge; therefore your responsibilities may focus more on lodge management or F&B, assisting in the kitchen, while at project sites in Livingstone and Victoria Falls this may translate as working in the booking office or in the hospitality team.

Teaching, Childcare, Medical and Miscellaneous

Anyone is free to apply under this category if they feel they have skills to offer that don’t fall under any of the previously mentioned categories, you might have skills in teaching, medicine, child care, construction, plumbing,
or a vast array of other experience. Your application will be taken under consideration and then a decision will be made
