Kenya Visas

Almost all visitors to Kenya now require visas including: nationals of Europe, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and Canada.

90-day visas can be obtained upon arrival at the International Airport in Nairobi for US$50.00 for a single-entry visa, and US$100 for multiple entries.

Visitors’ visas can be extended for a further three-month period, but not seven-day transit visas.

Kenya Health, Vaccinations, HIV/AIDS & Drinking Water

Malaria - Malaria prophylactics recommended by your personal physician are necessary. As well as insect repellent and covering yourself up with long trousers and light cotton long-sleeved shirts in the evenings.

Vaccinations - Hepatitis A, Polio, Typhoid

Vaccination against yellow fever is mandatory if travelling from an infected area, and recommended even if you are not. Be sure to have your vaccination record of yellow fever with you when you arrive.

HIV/AIDS - HIV/AIDS is a risk and it is recommended that you take all the necessary precautions.

It is advised that you drink bottled water in Kenya where possible.

Kenya Safety

The best advice is for you to be a well-informed traveller and that you adequately prepare yourself for your travel experience. African Impact offers 24-hour ground support for all our volunteers, and our coordinators will advise you on how best to integrate yourself into your country and your programme.

Please see our safety guidelines for more information or contact us if you have any specific questions about travel safety in Kenya.

Kenya Weather & Climate
  • As with most other countries in the equatorial belt, seasons seem to merge into one and are not distinctly different.
  • Summer: begins in September and temperatures begin to rise until January and then cool off again.
  • Rainy season: is generally March to May.
  • Coastal regions are more humid, as well as the area around Lake Victoria. The northern and more southerly regions are known to get really hot and dry, and the Highland areas are cooler because of their altitude.

Kenya Travel Highlights

  • Kenya offers you the enthralling mighty Masai warriors clad in their scarlet war dress
  • Venture out to see the great herds of migratory animals on the vast plains of the Masai Mara
  • Flamingo sanctuaries
  • Sprawling tea and coffee plantations, and bustling African marketplaces
