South Africa 2010 Overland Fan Tour

10 June: Welcome to Johannesburg, the industrial heartland of South Africa and in close vicinity to some of the world’s richest gold reefs. You will quickly see why this is one of Africa’s most thriving cities and your day will be spent settling in at the campsite.

11 June: The first Soccer World Cup ever on African soil commences today! We will be sure to find a nearby big screen in order to catch the official opening ceremony of what is bound to be an action packed tournament.

12 June: Today we will travel to Rustenburg, surrounded by the towering Magalies Mountains. Its Jacaranda tree-lined streets buzz with activity and we will visit an official soccer FANPARK to take part in the World Cup excitement.

13 June: We will travel a short distance to Pretoria, the administrative capital of Southern Africa and the host city of two of South Africa’s biggest soccer clubs! The Voortrekker Monument, the 220 000 years old Tswaing Meteorite Crater and the Union Buildings are all major attractions in this host city. Visit the official Pretoria FANPARK, with an estimated spectator capacity of 60 000 people!

14 June: Return to Johannesburg and visit the Johannesburg FANPARK as the group matches continue.

15 June: Today we will travel to the citrus-growing city of Nelspruit, in close vicinity to the Sudwala caves, the oldest known caves in the world and a must see on the itinerary of any visitor. Have a break before our next few days of adventure, as we leave behind the hustle and bustle of the city.

16 June: We will leave in the early morning and make our way to the Kruger National Park, South Africa's first and most famous national park. Boasting more recorded wildlife species than any other African game reserve, we will go in search of the Big 5 on our game drive. We will return to Nelspruit in time to be a part of the first World Cup game to take place here as we visit the official Nelspruit FANPARK.

17 June: Return to the Kruger National Park for a full day safari experience and enjoy a picnic lunch inside of the park.

18 June: Today we leave for the small landlocked Kingdom of Swaziland, offering diverse vegetation at every turn, a sub tropical climate and traditional and colourful Swazi costumes.

19 June: Spend the day as you wish ... reading a book in the shade of a tree, or getting your adrenalin pumping on one of the adventure activities on offer, such as paragliding, white river rafting or quad biking.

20 June: We head down to the beautiful African east coast for the first time, as we travel to St Lucia, situated in the heart of the Zulu Kingdom. This area is known for the Greater St Lucia Wetlands Park, now called iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a World Heritage Site and home to numerous unique and sensitive environments. It is a renowned fishing and wildlife destination, with hippos, Bush Buck, Red Duikers and monkeys roaming the area freely.

21 June: Today we will visit the African Impact projects in St Lucia and put our energy into good use as we assist the communities here. Rebuild and refurbish clinics and schools, interact with an orphan child and get involved in the community farming project.

22 June
: We make an early start to arrive in Durban in time for today's World Cup clash taking place here. Durban is South Africa's third largest city and also one of the most cosmopolitan in the country. It's one of the major industrial centres of the country and the principal port for general cargo. Visit the official Durban FANPARK.

23 - 24 June: Visit UShaka Marine World and the Botanical Gardens, enjoy fine and traditional dining, take in the scenic surroundings or relax on the warm Indian Ocean beaches. Durban is the playground of the Zulu Kingdom.

25 - 26 June: Today we make our way to the magnificent Drakensberg Mountains. Much of the mountain range has been declared a World Heritage Site, not only for its towering heights, but also its birds of prey and numerous galleries of Bushmen rock art. We will spend our days here reveling in the astounding surroundings and enjoying the astonishing scenery on our hikes/walks.

27 - 28 June: We arrive in the third country of our journey – mountainous Lesotho. This country, nestled in on all sides by South Africa, is home to one of the few mountain people of Africa, the Basotho. The entire country is 1000m above sea-level, and boasts Africa's highest peak south of Kilimanjaro. Our time here in the 'kingdom of the sky' will no doubt be memorable, and a pony-trek into remote areas is a must!

29 - 30 June: We head back into South Africa and make our way down the coast to Coffee Bay. Here the beaches are untouched between the rolling hills and the sea, with this destination offering excellent fishing opportunities. There are spectacular walks through coastal bush and the unique “hole in the wall”, a huge detached cliff which tells a legendary tale, is a place not to be missed! We will have two days to relax and of course follow the soccer action as the Round 16 comes to an end.

1 July: We will travel along the coast to the 'friendly and windy city' – Port Elizabeth. Here we will have a day to enjoy the Blue Flag status beaches and our beautiful surroundings. Algoa Bay, situated in PE, is regarded as one of the best sailing venues in the world, while scuba diving is of world class quality with beautiful reefs, shipwrecks, fish and colourful coral species.

2 July: Port Elizabeth FANPARK is going to have an electric atmosphere as the Quarter-final matches kick off today! We will visit this fanpark, where locals and tourists alike will converge for a genuine African experience, as the back-end of this amazing tournament begins.

3 July: We make our way to Addo Elephant Park for a game drive deep within the bushveld of the Eastern Cape. The original Elephant section of the park was proclaimed in 1931, when only eleven elephants remained in the area – today, this finely tuned ecosystem is sanctuary to over 450 elephants, Cape Buffalo, Black Rhino, a variety of antelope species, as well as the unique flightless dung beetle, found almost exclusively in Addo.

4 July: We continue to make our way down the coast and overnight in Knysna, known for its sheer beauty and some of Africa's most pristine surroundings. It is said to be one of the top 100 destinations in the world, situated between lush forests and shores. Visit the Brenton Butterfly Reserve, Knysna Museum or the Goukamma Nature Reserve.

5 July: We continue on to Hermanus, where those who are interested can get their adrenalin pumping by going shark-cage diving. Hermanus is also arguably the best place in South Africa from which to view Southern Right Whales and it boasts several of the country’s top wine estates. Long stretches of beaches and a rich flora kingdom with fynbos covered mountains are all attractions of this famous coastal town.

6 July: We have an early start again and make our way to the 'Mother City' – Cape Town. Known as one of the most beautiful cities in the world, from the landmark beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay to the vibrant Cape Town city centre and the award winning wine farms of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek - time spent in Cape Town will not be forgotten. We will set up camp quickly and head straight to the Cape Town FANPARK to catch the first of the Semi-final action! Who will be the first to make it into the Final!?

7 July: Today we will have time to recover from yesterday's action, or visit some of the many incredible sights that Cape Town has to offer. In the evening, we will make sure to find a big screen for the other Semi-final game.

8 July: Volunteer on African Impact’s Cape Town projects and assist in building, educational, sports and community programs.

9 – 10 July: We will have two days of leisure to spend as we wish. Visit Table Mountain via the cableway; Cape Point, a natural World Heritage Site where you can see the baboons, some ostrich and antelope; Boulders Beach, home to a growing colony of the vulnerable African Penguin or Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned for 18 years. Don’t forget the 3rd and 4th playoff due to kickoff on the 10th of July!

11 July: The climax we have all been waiting for ... THE 2010 WORLD CUP FINAL! We will make sure to put on our best 'costumes' and get our Vuvuzelas 'singing' as we support our favourite team!

12 July: Today our wonderful African World Cup Adventure sadly comes to an end, as we say our goodbyes and go our separate ways.
