"As an individual, my time on the Tourism Project has built my confidence, and taught me that I can use what knowledge I have, and that I can gain what I do not. Before the course I was very shy and I didn't know how I would ever be able to work well with tourists and share my community with them. The course encouraged team work and recognised everyone's skills as individuals, which enabled me to be confident when working in a group and alone. The course has taught me a lot, but it has also taught me that what I already know is important too. I never knew that my local knowledge was a skill that I could use like this. At the beginning there were 6 individuals, and when we come together with all of our skills, we are no longer individuals; we are 1 skilled team.
I truly enjoyed the course. What I enjoyed most was the many friends I have gained, and how we work as a team. Each one of my new friends are unique, and I have learned so much from each one of them. We don't just work together, now we socialise together and enjoy each others company.
My future has changed because of my time on the Tourism Project. I had never thought that I could build a small business, but through the training with African Impact we created 6 Rafiki Cultural Tours, which has enabled us to continue working a learning together, as well as giving us the chance to earn a small income. It's made me love tourism even more, and I am proud to be part of the tourism sector and to represent Tanzania to people from all over the world."
