We would like to share some great progress our registered charity, The Happy Africa Foundation (THAF) is making, with donations for projects at some of our African Impact projects. We are so proud to be able to continue the sustainable development within the communities we work in with the help of your donations.. Livingstone:
A New District Hospital for the Linda area - Timberland (Italy) have recently committed to fundraising 220,000 Euros for transforming a clinic in Livingstone into a district hospital. The funds to be raised this year and next, will create a much needed health facility for people living in rural areas around Livingstone, rather than the overburdened clinic that is currently unable to cope with all the patients in the area. Following initial talks with the potential donor (a previous volunteer who works for Timberland) THAF / African Impact approached the Ministry of Health (MOH) with the idea of a big build project. The MOH came back with the need of the clinic extension. The strong relationship with the MOH, the transparent communication and effective budgeting and plans for the project have helped secure a fantastic donation.
Mwandi School - we received 25,000 Euros to complete 2 classrooms for a local school. This will help over 500 grade 8 & 9 children who, once the project is complete, will be able to attend Mwandi school rather than walk over 5km to the nearest school.
We would like to congratulate the Livingstone team for all their work on this and creating such trust and strong relationships with donors. Hannah, our very passionate THAF intern has played a great role -as with the nature of her role she can spend time talking with potential donors, planning THAF projects and producing robust budgets so donors know where their money will go... then monitoring and reporting on each project. Hannah together with the leadership of Rachael and support from Leonora, are going from strength to strength as a THAF team.
Kikuyu Paediatric Ward - Planettera / STA have committed to $100,000 towards building a paediatric ward at Kikuyu hospital. The children currently share adult wards which prevents the proper care and observation needed as well as having no facilities specifically for children. This donation along with further funds still to raise, will provide a much needed children's ward that will improve the health facilities for children in the area. A BIG well done to the Kenya team and our charity development manager, as a huge amount of information and budgeting was pulled together to secure the sponsorship and sign the contract with Planettera. As a side note - we will be capping the charity admin fee on large donations such as the Timberland and Planettera to a specific amount rather than take 17.5% of the whole sum. The admin fee is there to cover our running costs and help develop our charity further. With such sizeable donations starting we will be hoping to reduce our admin fee as soon as we do start covering the charity costs.
All in all great news and reassurance what we are working on is starting to helping grow the charity and be part of taking our volunteer projects from strength to strength. The THAF team look forward to working with our project teams further on helping more great things happen in the communities they work with.
