African Impact have recently joined up with Chimfunshi Wildlife Sanctuary in Northern Zambia to coordinate a volunteer programme at the sanctuary – a unique way to contribute to the conservation of these endangered species! If you like chimps, you will LOVE this project! Lets take a look at what you might get up to on a typical day... 7.00am The start of your day at the sanctuary! Begin the day by preparing the chimpanzees’, monkeys’ and baboons’ food for the daily feedings. You may help to assist with the feedings of some of the other animals at the orphanage (including a hippo)! You will then help with cleaning the food buckets as well as cleaning out the bottles used for the feeding of milk to the infant chimpanzees. 9.00am Spend the morning monitoring activity and recording behaviour, collecting research and documenting movements with video cameras from outside of the enclosure. Or you may take out a group of young orphaned chimp on a fun ‘bush walk’ (about once a week)! This will give you a chance to interact with the animals, and watch them play in their natural environment! 12.00pm-1.00pm Lunch time . Enjoy lunch cooked for you by staff at the sanctuary. 2.00pm - 4.00pm Depending on the daily schedules, you may assist in the Education Centre, educating the local community about wildlife and the importance of its preservation. You will have the chance to meet the local people and immerse yourself in Zambian culture!
