"Whenever anyone from friends or family would ask me, “How was your Africa trip?”, “What was it like?”; I would show them this picture. It’s a picture I took while on one of the safari game-drives in South Africa. I took about 2,000 photo’s of the wildlife, people but none of those truly showed the actual reality of how close my volunteer group and I were to the animals. We’d spend 2, 3 or even 4hrs just watching the animals. No phone reception, no internet, no car horns, no traffic pollution, no nothing. Just you and a bunch of elephants chewing on twigs. It was one of the most memorable experiences I’ve had during my six-week volunteer program. It’s the one image that defines my entire experience." - Bashar Alaeddin, previous volunteer on our African Wildlife Photography and Conservation Project, Thanda Private Game Reserve (KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa).
