Cost of Volunteer / Gap Year Programmes in Africa

The costs for our gap year volunteer programmes in Africa will vary according to the length of time you are there for and the type of project. Below is a rough guideline of the costs of our volunteer programmes in Africa:

  • 8 week project - between £1300 and £2200
  • 6 month project - between £2500 and £3500

For costs of each specific project, view our volunteer projects in Africa.

Where does your money go?

African Impact is dedicated to all its volunteer work projects, and to making a visible and measurable difference in the lives of the people and wildlife of this continent. All of the money that is paid into our volunteer projects is committed back into African Impact’s work on the continent. Unfortunately this is not always the case with organisations based outside of Africa. By choosing to partake in an African Impact programme, you are already making a positive difference to the African economy.

Your Cost Includes

  • Project Fee - this entails financing that goes directly back into the volunteer work project that you are involved with. This project fee facilitates funding for items such as building materials, equipment, supplies, foodstuffs, etc. African Impact carefully manages the correct use of these funds
  • Full orientation upon arrival
  • All daily transfers to and from your projects during your stay
  • Full board and lodging which includes 3 meals a day, or a packed lunch if you will be away at your project
  • Weekly laundry service during your stay, or the facilities to attend to your own laundry
  • Assistance in your projects by various African Impact staff and volunteer coordinators.
  • Full support from African Impact and your coordinator throughout your time in Africa
  • Any visits to other African Impact projects based in the area.

Your Cost Excludes

  • All transport by air or bus to the nearest pick-up point
  • Travel Insurance for the duration of your placement (this should include coverage for repatriation)
  • All items of a personal nature, such as curios, gifts, clothing (work and other)
  • Email/Internet and telephone calls
  • All working visas for the country that your project is based in or for visits to other countries
  • Any ‘project travel highlights’, excursions, safaris, adventure activities and travel before and after volunteering, which may include excursions such as bungee jumping off Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and white water rafting in Zambia.
